To increase client satisfaction and save on costs one must optimally utilise inhouse mechanics.

About Mammoet

Mammoet supports clients in improving the efficiency of construction work and optimising productivity of factories and installations. In order to achieve this they offer solutions for hoisting, transport, installation, and dismantling large and heavy constructions.

The Challenge

Sustainability is an increasingly more important part of Mammoet’s professional vision and strategy as well as its parent company SHV. Mammoet uses SAP to register repairs and maintenance using notifications and PM orders for their Equipment Management Department, in short EMD, worldwide. Presently, about 35.000 job tickets are printed annually, which on average adds up to 140.000 sheets of paper that are subsequently manually entered into SAP. Mammoet uses Excel, SharePoint, Outlook and SAP ETM planboard to plan.

These methods have the following in common:

  •  They are highly time-consuming.
  •  They are not efficient, with an excess of steps and number of different sub-systems.
  •  There is no clear overview or report.

Selected Solution

SAP MRS was chosen so resources for the EMD could be handled more effectively and efficiently as it allows planners to complete approximately 90% of daily jobs in one transaction. Orders now directly enter the planboard of the plant in question and mechanics utilised by other plants are also visible.

Planners have a clear overview of planned orders, status, and the responsible maintenance managers. They can confirm appointments or mark them as (off site) project. Besides planning orders employees are able to give them a status with just two clicks, such as ill, holiday, dentist or doctor appointment, or special leave. Any planner can personalise settings and save them so next time planboard is opened it will be loaded automatically.

Any taken actions are linked to the digital time sheet, which is simultaneously being filled by the mechanics. This helps them keep up to date with hours worked and orders. Time sheets can be modified and after being approved send in digitally.

Ideo advised Mammoet in its choice for SAP MRS as a way to digitalise job tickets on mobile devices. Ideo facilitated the implementation of SAP MRS and this collaboration during the project was perceived as very pleasant by Mammoet. The project was completed on time, within budget, and qualitatively sound due to direct contact, clear agreements, good communication, and adjustments. Ideo had one or two consultants present at Mammoet every week and this led to a very successful collaboration, which fits in with Mammoet’s hands-on mentality.
