About Mammoet

Mammoet supports clients in improving the efficiency of construction work and optimizing the productivity of factories and installations. For this purpose, they provide solutions for lifting, transporting, installing, and dismantling large and heavy structures.

The challenge

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important part of Mammoet’s and its parent company SHV’s vision and strategy. Globally, Mammoet’s Equipment Management Department (EMD) uses SAP to record repairs and maintenance through notifications and PM orders. Currently, orders for technicians are printed and then manually processed in SAP. This involves approximately 35,000 orders per year, averaging 140,000 pages. Planning was done using Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, and the SAP ETM planning board.

All these planning methods share the following characteristics:

  • time consuming
  • not efficient (many steps and different subsystems)
  • no clear overview / reporting

Chosen solution

SAP MRS

To handle resources more effectively and efficiently for the EMD, Mammoet has opted for SAP MRS. With this solution, planners can accomplish approximately 90% of the daily required tasks from a single transaction (the planning board). Orders are directly routed to the planning board of the selected plant. Technicians deployed by another plant are also visible there.

Planners have an overview of planned orders, their status, and the responsible maintenance manager. Appointments can be fixed or marked as projects (offsite). Besides scheduling orders, employees can also indicate their status, such as sick leave, vacation, dentist/doctor appointments, or special leave, with just 2 mouse clicks. Each planner can personalize and save their display settings. This way, the next time the planning board is opened, their personal settings will be loaded.

The actions are linked to the digital timesheet that is already being filled in for the technicians in the background. This helps them keep track of their working hours and orders. The timesheets can be adjusted and submitted after approval—all digitally.

Ideo advised Mammoet in its choice of SAP MRS for transitioning to digital work orders via mobile devices. Ideo also guided Mammoet through the implementation of SAP MRS, and Mammoet found the collaboration during this project to be very pleasant. Clear lines of communication, well-defined agreements, effective communication, and adjustments ensured that the project was completed on time, within budget, and with high quality. The weekly presence of 1 or 2 consultants at Mammoet fostered a strong collaboration that aligns with Mammoet’s hands-on mentality.
